She presents choreographed violin performances, both live and in music videos found on her YouTube channel, which she created in 2007. Stirling performs a variety of music styles, from classical to pop and rock to electronic dance music. Aside from original work, her discography contains covers of songs by other musicians and various soundtracks. Her music video, “Crystallize” finished as the eighth-most watched video of 2012, and her cover version of “Radioactive” with Pentatonix won Response of the Year in the first Youtube Music Awards in 2013. Stirling achieved one million singles sold worldwide by August 2014. As of July 2016, her Lindseystomp YouTube channel exceeded 8 million subscribers and over a billion total views. Stirling has been named in Forbes magazine’s 30 Under 30 In Music: The Class Of 2015. Forbes notes her quarter-finalist position on America’s Got Talent in 2010, a No. 2 position on the Billboard 200 for her second album Shatter Me in 2014, and her 8 million subscribers on YouTube. Stirling’s debut album was a commercial success in Europe, selling 200,000 copies in Germany, winning a platinum certification; three additional certifications were given by Austria, Switzerland and Poland. The debut album was nominated for the 2014 Billboard Music Awards for Top Dance/ Electronic album. Stirling’s second album Shatter Me won the 2015 Billboard Music Awards for Top Dance/Electronic Album. Check out this awesome video, Roundtable Rival, to see just how talented Lindsey is!

Her dancers are always so coordinated and alluring! It’s always such a pleasure watching one of Lindsey’s videos. She’s so obviously passionate about what she does, seeing someone create something so beautiful and genuine is so inspiring!

Stirling describes her childhood as being raised in a modest household and stated “I would not trade my humble childhood years for anything else. Due to her family’s financial limitations, her parents could only afford to find a violin teacher who would give her half lessons. Told by instructors that “a child isn’t going to learn how to play in 15 minutes a week”, her parents persisted, and at the age of five she began taking violin lessons. You can see where this led!

The Myth of Finding the Perfect Hat

Just as the shopkeeper told Harry Potter, “The wand chooses the wizard…” so does the hat choose you!

It is not an unusual occurrence that someone will come into the shop and say they are “just looking” and don’t want our help. But they go on to try on hat after hat, looking for the “right one” while our sales person is standing by, hat in hand, waiting patiently.

You see, our sales people are trained hat whisperers, and they know how to listen. They can see the customer’s energy and can listen to which hat is calling to them.

Beth Watrous helping customers pick their perfect hat.

Our sales people may ask you a few questions to help narrow your options, such as:

  • Is this hat for everyday wear or a special occasion?
  • What kind of music do you like to listen to?

Meanwhile, they are checking out your vibe, your style – do you seem to like attention, want to me noticed? Or perhaps you are more subtle, want to hang back a bit?

No matter what your style, from Steampunk to Outback, we have got your topper!

There is an art to picking the right hat – one that creates symmetry and brings balance to your face.

The right hat complements the features you have, accentuating the positive and creating harmony.

If you have a round face, a flat bill may make your face look rounder, so you may want to avoid that style. Tilt your hat back a bit, if it is tilted forward your face may look shorter.

If your face is longer, pick a hat that will shorten the appearance of your face. Perhaps a Fedora, jauntily tilted to the side?

If you are like me and have a square face, well then, that wide brim might be calling to you. Pick a hat with some curve to it to soften the hard angles.

The right hat can make all the difference – it can bring you to the forefront or give you a quiet confidence.

It can also transport you to another realm completely, so tread carefully, and trust the hat!

Hannah Bertollini Watrous

One of the first things you notice about Hannah Bertollini Watrous is the warmth of her smile. Most likely the second will be the warmth of her hug, because whether she is meeting you for the first, or fifty-first, time she will greet you like you are a long lost friend.

hannah-1

Its that open joy that drives Hannahs work as the Global Brand Marketing Manager for Watsonville-based American Hat Makers.  Hannah is an integral piece of the family business (Husband Garth is the son of Founder Gary Watrous), whose mission is, Having fun, laughing often, and honoring everyone’s unique strengths.

13921040_10155150611219460_4272381649331964332_n

When I first met Hannah it was not long after American Hat Makers had moved into their large warehouse near the Watsonville airport. What began as a one-man operation in her father-in-laws garage over 40 years ago has since grown to employ 50 positive and fun loving people who work together to produce the finest, most striking, handmade leather hats in the world.

As Global Brand Marketing Manager, Hannah is tasked with promoting several unique brands under the American Hat Makers umbrella. This is no small task, as each line has its own distinct personality. Her work takes her all over the country, from the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in South Dakota, to high-end trade shows in Las Vegas and New York.

My BertolliniGirls .JPG

Regardless of how many miles she is logging, Hannahs priority is family first and foremost. I love that my beautiful daughters (Gianna, 23 and Leilani, 16) have the courage to follow their dreams, take risks, and fall short. They both love deeply, are knowledgeable, athletic, nurturing, humorous, and part of the next generation of entrepreneurs who will make a difference in our community, she said.

dsc_0052As far as her marriage is concerned, Hannah clearly loves working with her husband Garth as much as she loves him. We really complement each other. Im proud of the fact that we work so hard on our relationship so that our girls are able to see what a healthy relationship looks like – to be respected, loved, and enjoy life to the fullest!”

Clean and sober for over 18 years, Hannah is now addicted to living life fully present and finding love and laughter in every day. Her dedication to enjoying life is evident in every aspect of her being. With her guidance, American Hat Makers dedicates as much to the fulfillment of their employees as they do to making amazing hats. She and Garth mentor employees, provide monthly themed breakfasts and lunches and Keep it Weird days (where everyone dresses up and laughter and smiles abound!) They work to encourage each and every employee to become their highest selves and fulfill their dreams.

One of the things Hannah feels most strongly about is helping the community. I know we are fortunate to live a charmed life and it feels exceptionally good for my family to be able to give to those in need.

Whether it is through American Hat Makersannual Hat Day in the Sun event, where they give away hundreds of hats and educate the community about protecting their faces from the sun, or by gifting beanies and socks to the homeless each winter through their Headwear for the Homeless campaign, Hannah knows it is through giving that we receive much more.

I used to really worry about what others thought of me,she said.  Now I feel incredible knowing I work hard at keeping my side of the street clean and discovering how I can be the best me, and finding ways to impact our world in a positive way. There’s not a doubt in my mind that I can make a difference. I have an abundance of Faith in the outcome.IMG_0625.jpg

Do you believe in MAGIC? American Hat Makers does!

steampunk-hatter-absinthe-on-model_MG_1006

Do you believe in MAGIC?

I’m not referring to the David Copperfield kind (although this kind does appear in Las Vegas!)

Nor I am I referring to the pulling a rabbit out of a hat kind (although this kind does involve hats!)

No, I am referring to the amazing, one-of-a-kind fashion tradeshow that takes place in Las Vegas twice a year. With over 60,000 (yes, that is correct: sixty THOUSAND) industry insiders in attendance, MAGIC is the marketplace for all things fashion forward.

12710995_1051001441624696_4769026420044971089_o

If this is the place to be then you know American Hat Makers is there! We are proud to be a part of this huge marketplace for the past several years. It’s one of our favorite places to be! (Well, they all are, but don’t let the secret out!)

MAGIC is truly like nothing else and American Hat Makers is thrilled to be exhibiting in “The Collective” marketplace again this year.

What is “The Collective” you ask? well, according to MAGIConline:

THE COLLECTIVE is the culture of men’s fashion. This platform showcases everything from classic collections to lifestyle-driven and licensed apparel for men and young men. By uniting this community under one roof next to PROJECT, THE COLLECTIVE gives buyers unparalleled access to the rapidly growing men’s and young men’s market.

Come by THE COLLECTIVE and find us:   August 15-17, booth #30038.

This year we will be proudly showcasing both our new hats and our perennial bestsellers as well as celebrating our new Outdoor and Heritage catalogs!

If you’re in Vegas August 15- 17 we’d love to see you – or you can follow the magic on our Facebook page or  Instagram or Twitter!

Happy Birthday to Gary Watrous!

Gary Watrous & Merrylee Rae- American Hat Makers- Hat Designeer- president- CEO

The American Hat Makers family came together last week to celebrate the 66th birthday of founder and president Gary Watrous.

5a6e4f99b6587e31b31c7fa9187719a2

It’s easy to celebrate a man like Gary – he’s far from a stereotypical “boss.” Not only is he profoundly passionate about leatherwork and hat making, he is equally enamored with the team of people working with him at the Watsonville warehouse and boutique.

Gary’s heart of gold is the stuff of legend at American Hat Makers, and each and every employee knows they can come to him if they need anything and he will do all he can to help.

To Gary, the team he works with is like family. In fact, many of the folks working at American Hat Makers are family. Gary’s wife, Merry Lee contributes to design and creative development; son, Garth, is second in command; and his daughter-in-law, Hannah, is the Director of Global Marketing and Branding.

“Family has always been the most important part of life to me,” Gary said. “There is a satisfaction in sharing the creative process and continuing the dream with those you love.”

Daughter-in-law Hannah serves the birthday cake.

Speaking of those he loves, Gary’s constant companions, Ruby and Pearl, come with him to work everyday. They are an important part of the team and if you come to the shop you may well be greeted by them. If he could, he would likely bring his gorgeous horse, Tucker, to work too!

Gary is undoubtedly the golden heart of American Hat Makers – and he is the first to say his family and team are the soul.

Please join us all as we wish Gary a very Happy Birthday!

10 Days, 2000 Hats – Sturgis 2015

Garth Watrous sums it up, “Our Voodoo Hatter brand is spreading like wildfire! We are now the official hat in the motorcycle industry. We’re always looking for new partnerships with the leaders in the industry, like Indian Motorcycles, and Harley Davidson. This kind of event put us in an optimal position for exposure, and our customers love our hats”.

Shipment

Hat shipment ready to go.

Selling 2000 hats in 10 days requires some preparation. Bikers were pouring in days before the official event began and we were ready. We cranked up production a month in advance, fabricating (by hand) over a thousand hats in addition to our usual customer orders. Those hats were packed on pallets and strategically shipped to our booth in two separate shipments. Our goal to make supply meet demand is our highest priority.

Here we are on Main and Junction.

VooDoo Hatter headquarters was located at the corner of Main Street and Junction Avenue, in front of JJ Davenport’s restaurant, and close to the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum & Hall of Fame.

This is a prime location on the main drag!

Diego En Fuego Gomes on stage with his band at the “Buffalo Chip”.

Kommando Kilts

It’s such a good feeling to get product recognition from people who are at the top of their trade”, says Garth. “I actually had the honor of signing an autograph for being the Owner of VooDoo Hatter. It really makes us feel good about our hats”.

Tommy Shaw of “Styx” gives his approval.

Dallas Hageman at Wild Ride Radio loves his VooDoo Topper.

We go to Sturgis with the goal of becoming the #1 hat maker in the industry. Next year, VooDoo Hatter will be in the same location, and we’re bringing it! We’ll have new hat designs and of course plenty of the old school classics.

We want to thank our customers, and give heartfelt high fives to everyone who participated in making this event a success. Here are some of our favorites.  For more pictures Click here.
