Utah Arts Festival 2014 Review – From Head’n Home Hats

americanhatmakers_garthhannahwatrous_saltlakecity1Garth and Hannah Watrous, part of our leadership team at Head’n Home, just returned from the Utah Arts Festival, the largest outdoor arts event this Summer in Utah with approximately 800,000 in attendance.

Our Steampunk Hatter and Voodoo Hatter and Ashbury Hats were the big draw – especially our Top Hats.

According to Garth, “now that we have separate and unique brands, it’s easier to talk to hat lovers – we have eclectic brands that are fun to promote. Everyone wants to get into the experience – and make a statement.”

From Hannah – “There were so many highlights. Salt Lake City is a city for hat lovers! The weather was stunning and we loved hanging out with the other artists – the community is so positive, creative and family-oriented.”

“Many mentioned our hats are incredible pieces of art. They are impressed with our handmade work and that we are American made.”

“Our booth had a great energy – everyone who visited was excited to try on hats, take selfies and hang with us.”

(If you want to tag your photo on your social media channel, please use #1800NiceHat.)

One of the biggest highlights was meeting T.J. Miller from the show Silicon Valley and Transformers 4.americanhatmakers_garthhannahwatrous_saltlakecity3

“He dug our top hats and stayed in our booth looking around and chatting with us,” said Garth. “He wants to wear our hats for his upcoming premieres – so we may be on the Red Carpet soon!”

The other buzz was interest from Richard Grieco (21 Jump Street) – fingers crossed we get our hats to him.

Voodoo Hatter Sponsors Hollister Bike Rally 4th of July Weekend

This weekend, Voodoo Hatter is one of the major sponsors at California’s largest Motorcycle event, the Hollister Bike Rally.

The FREE Motorcycle and Music Street Festival is held downtown, July 4 – 6th, in Hollister, the birthplace of the American Biker.

This is the 2nd bike rally that Voodoo Hatter has attended (we made a splash at the Laughlin River Run earlier this year) and our first major sponsorship. We are excited to debut some of our 2015 hats and are offering FREE shipping for any hat purchased at the rally.

We’ll have Hollister Rally exclusive patches on some of our hats – plus packable, waterproof hats – perfect for a bike sidebag.

According to Yauni Smith, Voodoo Hatter’s Brand Ambassador, “we are excited about being at the heart of this local event especially since our hats are handmade in the Watsonville area – so close.”

She’s says “the crowds love our hats – the variety, quality, craftsmanship and the unique styles. They know they are getting a locally, well-made hat.”

Smith especially likes the new vented top hats (for all the hot heads!). “When someone wears a Voodoo Hatter, they get attention.”

As for Smith, she’ll be wearing her Stoker and Jerry, a possible new hat with laser-engraved flash tattoo design.

Visit us at the corner of San Benito and 6th Street, near the Heavenly Bakery and next to the Ford booth. We’ll be holding raffles all weekend and giving away branded keychains with each purchase.

Bright Splashes of Color – Hannah’s Hats and Heels

In case you missed meeting me at American Hat Makers’ Hat Day in the Sun in Capitola on June 19th, here’s my outfit and stunning hat for this week’s Hannah’s Hats & Heels.

Hannah.Hat.Giveaway.4

To complement my handmade Black and Lavender Derby Dallas Hat and sassy bow (Double G Hats), I chose a bold camisole from CAbi – purple, pink, yellow and green – so I could keep cool while I was busy passing out hats.

To protect my shoulders from the sun (the whole point of National Hat Day in the Sun), I chose a mint cardigan with flowing lines that dresses up my outfit without making me uncomfortable in the heat. I added black stylish fitted shorts – casual and professional at the same time – and chunky beige wedges – to lengthen my silhouette.

These are all basic pieces in my wardrobe that turn into a fancy outfit when I top it with my Derby Dallas Hat. The bow really makes a statement – I received so many compliments that I’m suggesting we add this to our line in the upcoming seasons.

Usually lavender might seem a bit light and can fade into the background – not here! With my bold cami and pretty cardi, I was anything but invisible.

Send me your favorite black and bold ensemble. I’ll help you match a hat — so you can protect your gorgeous head and face and look amazing!

We couldn’t have made Hat Day in the Sun without the support of our local media. We are so lucky to have excellent journalists in Santa Cruz County!

A huge thank you to these talented and connected folks – especially for allowing us to drop in and give them hats the day before our event in Capitola Village on June 19th – to raise awareness of skin cancer prevention.

Black & White is Summer Chic – Hannah’s Hats & Heels

Summer’s here and the most important must-wear accessory is a hat, of course. So many people buy hats and only wear them for special occasions. Not me!
hannahwatrous_ashburyhats_061714
Hats used to be worn every day for every reason – it’s my goal to make every day hat day. I’m going to show you how effortless it is to match a hat to your outfit.
For a stylish twist to Summer, here’s casual chic that will keep you cool while you look hot!
A cute black fitted short-sleeved jacket over white wide-leg trousers and black flats is the perfect match for this black Derby Dallas from Double G Hats.
I added a fabulous black bow to give it a unique twist. I can go from work to dinner and not miss a beat.
These are basic pieces you probably already have in your closet. Don’t be shy to wear black in the summer – brighten it up and add your own style stamp.
Send me your favorite Summer black & white ensemble. I’ll help you match a hat — so you can protect your gorgeous head and face and look amazing!

Capitola Hat Day in the Sun 2014 – Review from American Hat Makers

What a day for hats!

Hannah.Hat.Giveaway.7

American Hat Makers and Head’n Home celebrated national “Hat Day in the Sun” on June 19th in Capitola Village by giving out 400 hats to raise awareness for skin cancer and the importance of protecting your skin.

We were part of a national public awareness campaign from The Headwear Association – the largest and most prestigious hat organization. We were grateful that Dorfman Pacific in Stockton donated hats so we could give out so many to our local community.

And we gave out 400 hats! The line was nearly down to Zelda’s Resturant at one point — and there were 70 people in line by 1:30p.

According to Hannah Watrous, VP of Marketing and Branding for American Hat Makers (and organizer of the event), “It wasn’t about giving away free hats. It was about educating our kids about the dangers of skin cancer– really relevant in a beach community.”

The true meaning of this event became apparent and so important once we started hearing stories people shared about their own experiences with skin cancer – from a husband who is currently undergoing chemotherapy for skin cancer (he did receive a hat!) to someone showing us her melanoma scars. We couldn’t be more grateful to be able to share our hats with the local community.

Hannah.Hat.Giveaway.10

Hannah was overjoyed “hearing the different stories of the survivors…it was priceless!”

We even met visitors from San Jose who are now enjoying our hats.

The Jr. Guards supported our event, too – since Hannah’s daughter is part of the team, “I still receive appreciation from not only the parents of the guards but the children/teenagers genuinely appreciate their Sun Hat!

I can’t wait until next year!!”

Neither can we.

Here’s some of our Press from the event:

We made the front page of the local section in the Santa Cruz Sectional: http://www.santacruzsentinel.com/localnews/ci_25997736/capitola-enjoys-hat-day-sun

We also received generous coverage here, too – thanks to everyone!
